PARAMEDICAL

There are 22 courses which belong to paramedical and which a person is eligible to pursue after Class 12th. Paramedical courses are available at degree, diploma and certificate level. The duration of the course can be anywhere btw 6 months to 4 years.

  1. X-Ray Technology - Also called as radiography, this course is extremely popular and the techniques taught in this course are of great help to doctors on the field. X rays are used to get an image of the internal organs of the body and help the doctor determine what is wrong with the patient. In this course, students learn about the different types of machines used, different types of X – rays, best practices, and many other subjects. Additionally, they are taught about the various imaging technologies used like computerized axial tomography, fluoroscopy etc. Students need to know which technique suits a situation the best.
  2. Anaesthesia Technology - As the name suggests, students enrolled in this course learn about the different doses of anaesthesia that should be administered in different situations. This is usually the first step when going for a medical procedure and hence is extremely important. Additionally, wrong administration of doses can lead to extreme health effects. They learn about the different procedures and requirements that need to be fulfilled before giving anaesthesia and after the dose wares off. They also need to keep a careful track of the patient’s health and make sure that they do not have a reaction to the dosage given.
  3. Physiotherapy - Also known as physical therapy is the branch of healthcare that deals with the movement of the human body. Various techniques like annual therapy, exercise therapy, electrotherapy etc are employed in this field. Physiotherapists are tasked with improving the mobility of certain body parts in patients after an accident. It is a long process and this course teaches the students the different approaches to be taken during the long course.
  4. Dialysis Technology - People enrolled in this course learn about the different machinery used in the process of dialysis and learn to operate them. They learn how to interpret the results that the machine gives them and make a correct diagnosis. Dialysis is a medical process that removes waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients.
  5. Ambulance Attendant - These are medical professionals who are usually the first respondents in case of emergencies. They are the professionals who are assigned to ambulances and come to the aid of patients who cannot get to the hospital on their own. They need to know what to do in different medical emergencies and are tasked with getting the patients to the nearest hospital in time.
  6. Advanced Life Support Paramedic - Usually, they are assigned to the intensive care units to take care of the patients in critical conditions. They are of assistance to the doctors and give them important information about the patient’s condition. The salary is highly dependent on the experience of the candidate.
  7. Critical Care Paramedic - As the name suggests, these professionals need to provide medical help to patients in critical conditions. This is an extremely important position and comes with great responsibility. Usually, they are the first responders in a critical situation and hence they need to make quick decisions to improve the patient’s condition or at least prevent the condition from deteriorating further.
  8. Medical Assistant - Their main responsibility involves being of assistance to the physician. The following are a few of their responsibilities-
    • Taking medical History
    • Drawing blood
    • Authorizing prescription refills
    • Performing basic lab tests and many more
